A 29-year-old man, Jeremiah Bamidele, has been remanded in the Agodi Prison by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, for attempting to kill his own father, Olumuyiwa Bamidele.

Vanguard reports that the Jeremiah had kidnapped his father, held a machete to his throat and threatened to kill him if he did not give him N500,000.
The accused, a resident of Bamidele compound in Idi-Ayunre area, Ibadan, was docked on a four-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, demanding with menace and attempt to murder.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Ogunremi, had earlier told the court that the accused conspired with some others still at large to commit the offenses on December 21, 2016, at his residence.
Inspector Ogunremi added that Jeremiah kidnapped his father and threatened to kill him if he did not give him the money.
“The accused had put a cutlass to his father’s neck in an attempt to murder him before he was rescued by neighbours,”  Ogunremi said.
The offenses, according to Inspector Ogunremi, contravened Sections 320 (1) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2,000, which prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Abiona Richard, who refused to take the accused plea, ordered that he remanded in prison custody, adding that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for legal advice before adjourning the case to February 6, 2017, for a mention.
