UPDATED: Why Nigeria Police raided Senator Goje’s home Security operatives, believed to be from the police headquarters, on Thursday evening raided the Abuja home of Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. The operation, which began after 5:00 p.m. was still ongoing as at 7:01 p.m. Our correspondents report that at least 12 vehicles, including about eight police vans were stationed outside the building. At least 25 mobile police officers were sighted outside the building, located on Haile Selassie Street, Asoroko. About half a dozen detectives were also seen standing outside, with even more likely to be inside. It was initially thought that the operatives who raided the building were from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, hence our earlier report to that effect. Two Teenagers Drowned In A Hotel Swimming Pool In Benin Edo State On Easter Day (Photos) An Easter celebration tragedy have been reported in Benin, the Edo state capital over the past weekend after two teenagers drowned in a hotel swimming pool. 17-year-old Ikponmwosa Isibor, and 16-year-old Emmanuel Abuzu, have reportedly drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Benin.   The two teenagers, were said to have paid to use the swimming pool of the unnamed hotel when they drowned at about 4:00p.m last Saturday. The swimming pool area of the hotel was under lock and keys when reporters visited the hotel located in Okhoro area on Wednesday.   When asked some of the safety measures put in place to avert reoccurrence of the unfortunate incidences, the hotel manager simply said; Quote “the police are already handling the matter, you can meet the police to tell you that.” A source at Okhoro Police Station said some staffs of the hotel have been picked up for interrogation over the matter.

Kaduna State Gov, Nasir El-Rufai Arrest Another Journalist Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State is at it again, doing what he knows how to do best, arresting journalists. Daily Post reports that El’Rufai ordered the arrest of Mr. Midat Joseph, a Kaduna-based correspondent of Leadership newspapers. He was arrested by security operatives in his house at the early hours of Thursday. According to sources, the journalist who is now in detention in Kaduna was said to have published a report considered critical of the state government. This development has brought to six, the number of journalists arrested on the orders of the state governor since his assumption of office on May 2015. Police Arrest LG Chairman Over Assassination Attempt On Senator Dino Melaye The Kogi Police Special Squad has arrested the administrator of Ijumu Local governmental area of Kogi State, Hon.| Taofiq Isa, in connection with the assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye. Dino Melaye escaped death on Saturday, April 15th after gunmen invaded his house in the early hours of Saturday at Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State. But report says Isa was arrested at about 1.30pm in Lokoja, the state capital. He was apprehended during his visit to the Commissioner for Education in the state, Sunday Tolorunleke. Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu confirmed the arrest of the suspect. CERTIFICATE SAGA! Head Teacher Demoted To Gateman Over Certificate Forgery Scandal -Details A Head Teacher with the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, on Grade Level 13 has been demoted to the post of a gateman on Grade Level 04, while 758 others were sent to lower grade levels for using fake certificates to gain employment into the service. Dr. Stephen Odey, Chairman of SUBEB, said in Calabar that over 758 teachers with fake certificates and 700 ghost teachers were uncovered during a recent screening by the board across the state. Dr. Odey said the fake certificates have been confiscated from their owners. He added that although no punitive measures, apart from demotions and suspensions would be applied on the culprits, measures have been put in place to ensure that recruitment into the state teaching service is devoid of malpractices and fake certificate syndrome as in the past.
